drumMUSTER: Recycling for farmers

Published: 12-11-2012

As homes, businesses and schools prepare for National Recycling Week today farmers and chemical users can also do their bit through drumMUSTER.

In just over 14 years Australia’s only agricultural and veterinary chemicalcontainer recycling scheme has helped prevent more than 25,000 tonnes of waste ending up in landfill.

That represents more than 20 million drums collected, crushed or shredded and transformed into things like plastic cable covers, wheelie bins and pipes.

Just as National Recycling Week is helping to change the attitude of Australians when it comes to recycling, drumMUSTER is doing the same with farmers.

Almost every farmer in the country knows the drumMUSTERname, but only about 60% say they have used the program to get rid of their unwanted containers.

This week we’re reaching out to farmers across the country and urging them to take a look in their shed or paddock, round up their containers and take them into their nearest drumMUSTERsite.

To find your local drumMUSTER site click here to locate your local council and arrange a time to drop your drums off.

Remember tomake sure drums are residue free with the lids removed before being delivered. Metal drums should be pierced to allow better airflow for drying. There’s no need to pierce plastic containers.
