drumMUSTER is a nationwide program dedicated to the collection and recycling of empty agricultural chemical containers. Since its launch in 1999, the initiative has diverted over 42 million plastic drums (equivalent to 43,000 tonnes) from landfill, significantly enhancing environmental sustainability through the safe disposal and repurposing of used chemical drums.
Farmers, growers, and other users of agricultural chemicals are encouraged to participate in the drumMUSTER program by bringing their empty, triple rinsed eligible containers to designated collection points. With over 830 collection points across Australia, drumMUSTER ensures accessible locations, making it easy for participants to contribute to a more sustainable agricultural industry. These conveniently situated sites promote widespread participation and ease of access, supporting environmental responsibility in agriculture.
In 2024, drumMUSTER revolutionised the management and recycling of agricultural chemical containers with the introduction of the Drums-to-Drums initiative. This significant advancement shifts from converting chemical drums into various products like wheelie bins and irrigation pipes to recycling them back into new chemical drums. This closed-loop system, powered by advanced recycling technology, ensures continual repurposing of used containers within the industry, further enhancing sustainability and reducing the need for new raw materials.
Participating in drumMUSTER helps protect the environment by reducing waste and promoting recycling, supporting cleaner, safer environments and sustainable agricultural practices while enhancing community image.
