Queenslanders have only a few days left to book their obsolete farm chemicals for collection with Agsafe’s ChemClear scheme.
The environmentally-friendly program, which supports the safe disposal of agricultural and veterinary chemicals, will travel throughout the state in June collecting unwanted products from farmers who no longer need them.
Farmers end up with leftover product they cannot reuse and ChemClear works with the State Government to help farmers fund collections of unlabeled, unregistered or unknown chemicals.
Chemicals become unwanted in a number of ways. Property owners may inherit chemicals when they buy land, others switch crops, while some buy specific-use chemicals to manage one-off pest events.
Agvet chemical users in Queensland have until April 28 to take an inventory of their chemical sheds and register any obsolete chemicals for the statewide collection.
In May, registered users will be contacted with dates and locations for local collections in shire council jurisdictions.
Program manager, Lisa Nixon, said Queenslanders were great supporters of ChemClear.
“Every two years we run a state wide collection across Queensland and the volume of products registered still amazes us,” she said.
“It’s a great testament to farmers who are leading the way in their use of environmental disposal under available life cycle stewardship programs.”
ChemClear is an end-of-life product stewardship program fostered by Agsafe for the safe disposal of agvet chemicals.
