Last night, our very own Allan McGann received the E.E. Muir & Sons Pty. Ltd. Community Stewardship Award at the Hort Connections 2023 Horticulture Awards for Excellence.
An amazing achievement, and truly deserved.
Allan has been a driving force behind Agsafe’s drumMUSTER container recycling program for over 20 years, guiding it onto becoming one of Australia’s leading product stewardship initiatives. From humble beginnings with a handful of collection sites, the program now has 830 sites nationally, with 487 collection agencies, 350 councils and 107 community groups involved.
Thanks largely to Allan, drumMUSTER has now recycled over 40 million AgVet containers, saving over 45,000 tonnes of plastic going to landfill, and over $1.4 million raised by community groups through the inspection of agricultural drums.
As a farmer himself, Allan advocated for farmers and AgVet chemical users to have a safe and environmentally responsible disposal pathway for their used containers and chemicals, and was instrumental in helping develop a program that helps remove plastic waste off farms and out of rural communities.
Through his 20 years with us , Allan has become recognised across Australia as the face of drumMUSTER, in reality though, he is the heart and soul of the program.
Today, along with countless farmers and agvet chemical users, we thank you for your service to the community.
